Settlers of Catan: Rule Dispute?
In Settlers of Catan, say one friend is going for the longest road card. He's got this kind of set up. ("-" = road, "#" = settlement)

It is legal for an opponent to place a settlement in the middle of that long string of roads and break the road, so to speak, and make it two separate roads.
Now, can that be (in a sense) reversed?
By this, I mean can I build roads through someone else's settlement, or does that settlement act as a "block" from further expansion.
The rules didn't really say anything that addressed this.
1) Yes, an opponent may build his settlement to break up '#' player's line of roads. However, that opponent still must obey the distance rule (each city or settlement must be at least 2 spaces away from all other settlements and cities, including his own), so the only way to break up that road in your example is to build it 2 roads from the right like so....

2) You can NOT build through an opponent's settlement nor city. So for example, given what's below you would NOT be able to build a road past the '^'
# - - # - - # - - ^
However, if you already had your own road built past your opponent's settlement like below, then you would be able to continue on. It's just that you would have a more difficult time regaining/holding on to Longest Road since you can only add to your LR requirement from one side at a time and not by building roads from either end.
